1960年代には、当時夫だったジェリー・ゴフィンとコンビを組んで、数々のヒット曲を世に送り出したキャロル・キング。
70年代に入るとシンガーとしても本格的に活動を始め、この曲が収録されたアルバム『Tapestry（邦題：つづれおり）』は
全米アルバム・チャートで15週連続1位、さらに302週（ほぼ6年!!）に渡ってチャートインという、驚異的なロング・ヒット作品となりました。
余談ですが、ニール・セダカのヒット曲『おおキャロル』は、キャロル・キングのことを歌ったものだそうで。アンサーソングとして、彼女もニール・セダカのことを歌った『おおニール』を発表しています。
